Coney Island Lighthouse, Established in 1890

Located at the bottom of Brooklyn, New York, in Coney Island, the Coney Island Lighthouse is seen by all ships entering and leaving New York Harbor. In fact, to immigrants traveling to New York by ship, the Coney Island Lighthouse was seen before the Statue of Liberty and it has welcomed visitors for over a hundred years.

After being manned by several lighthouse keepers, the Coney Island light was the home of the last civilian lighthouse keeper in the United States, Frank Schubert, and his family. When Frank passed away in 2003, the Coast Guard leased the property to a local nonprofit and the Schubert family is working with them to preserve the history of Frank Schubert and the light. We hope to soon welcome visitors to the light on a regular basis.
